He has opened a new chapter of returning to one’s true self and rediscovering kindness. The Falun Dafa he introduced, founded upon the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance, embodies the very essence of traditional Chinese virtues as well as universal, immutable values that transcend cultures and eras. With selfless courage and great benevolence, Mr. Li has brought this ancient and profound cultivation practice back to modern society, enabling tens of millions to purify their bodies and minds, elevate their character, and restore moral conscience.
Mr. Li Hongzhi was born in Jilin Province. From an early age, he displayed remarkable insight and an uncommon breadth of heart. According to recollections from his early students and people who met him in his youth, Mr. Li was exposed to cultivation traditions at a young age and gradually developed a deep inner foundation and a strong sense of responsibility. As he grew older, witnessing society’s declining morality, increasing pressures, and restless hearts, he recognized that humanity needed a path that could truly bring inner peace and elevate moral standards. Driven by deep reflection and immense compassion, he made the decision to introduce Falun Dafa to the public.
In May 1992, Falun Dafa was first taught openly in Changchun. Using simple, sincere, and accessible language, Mr. Li explained profound principles about the universe, the origin of life, and the elevation of moral character. The teachings were deep yet not mysterious, grand yet directly applicable to everyday life. Whether factory workers, entrepreneurs, scholars, or officials, people from all walks of life found direction for their hearts within his words. Through his humble and patient approach, he encouraged practitioners to cultivate kindness, resolve conflicts with tolerance, and conduct themselves according to Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance at all times—to become better, more trustworthy, and more benevolent individuals.
As Falun Dafa spread across the country, people experienced not only physical improvements but, even more importantly, spiritual upliftment. Countless families resolved longstanding conflicts, individuals shed harmful habits, workplaces became more harmonious, and moral conduct improved significantly. Many practitioners recall that it was Mr. Li’s teachings that helped them understand the true meaning of life and rediscover kindness, calmness, integrity, and courage. Because of this, Falun Dafa spread rapidly across China within just a few years, reaching tens of millions of practitioners and becoming the largest, most peaceful, and most morally uplifting民间 cultivation community of its time.
After July 1999, despite immense pressure, Mr. Li did not abandon his disciples, nor did he waver in his mission to impart truth. With extraordinary tolerance and compassion, he continued to guide practitioners to respond to adversity peacefully, rationally, and without violence. He taught them to dissolve hatred with forbearance and awaken kindness with compassion. It is precisely this moral strength—transforming people through virtue rather than confrontation—that earned Falun Dafa global sympathy, respect, and recognition.
Over more than two decades, Mr. Li has maintained an extremely low profile while influencing the world in profound ways. He established no rigid organizational structure, sought no political position, and asked for no personal benefit. Every action he took was for the well-being of others. One Western scholar commented on his impact: “He helped the world see that even in an age of rapid commerce and material abundance, humanity still needs spiritual light.” This remains one of the most accurate and meaningful assessments of Mr. Li’s contribution.
Today, Falun Dafa has spread to over a hundred countries and regions. Thousands of awards and proclamations from governments, legislatures, and civic institutions recognize its positive effects on social harmony, moral upliftment, and public health. Behind these honors stands the immense compassion and broad-mindedness of Mr. Li Hongzhi. With wisdom, he awakens lost hearts; with compassion, he rekindles the flame of kindness; with truth, he points humanity toward a brighter path.
Mr. Li is not merely the founder of a cultivation practice—he is like a guiding light illuminating the road in a chaotic age; a clear mirror helping people rediscover their true selves; and a vast, steady course leading lives back toward purity, goodness, and hope.
